SE Harris, Galveston counties wake up to flash flooding

Heavy rains hit parts of southeast Harris and Galveston counties Tuesday morning, causing flash flooding and rises in banks.

Some places got up to 6 inches of rain in the last three hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Several cities and locations are included under a flash flood warning, which will last until 7 a.m. Those locations are Southeastern Pasadena, northeastern League City, the Galveston Causeway, Texas City, La Porte, Dickinson, La Marque, Santa Fe, Seabrook, Hitchock, Kemah, Taylor Lake Village, El Lago, Bayou Vista, Clear Lake Shores, Tiki Island, San Leon, Bacliff and Kemah Boardwalk.

A flash flood watch will remain in effect through Tuesday afternoon throughout much of southeast Texas.

High water locations have been spotted on three frontage road lanes of Beltway 8 east, northbound at Spencer Highway; and both directions of Interstate 45 at FM 1765 (Texas Avenue) in Galveston County.

Armand Bayou at Genoa-Red Bluff Road is nearing the top of its banks in southeast Houston, according to the Harris County Flood Warning System.

Meteorologists are also keeping an eye on a storm system in the Gulf of Mexico. Its chances of developing into a tropical storm by the weekend are rising, to 60 percent.
